THERE were celebrations at the weekend for the Hughenden Valley Village Day.

It was held on Saturday on the village field with a theme of 50 Golden Years, as it is the 50th anniversary of the current village hall.

There was a procession that walked through the village from Hughenden Primary School and ended on the field with adults and children participating in costumes and props to celebrate the event.

Hughenden Primary School, Great Kingshill Combined School, Hughenden Pre-school and many other organisation that use the hall took part.

There were dozens of stalls selling goods and hosting games.

There was also an events arena which featured a surprise performance from the Red Barrows - a group of local men displaying their wheelbarrow dance routine.

Al Bowyer, chairman of the village day committee, said: "It was a great day. It is all about the buzz. There were smiling faces all day and that is what it is about, the community coming together.

"Thanks must go to the entire organising team who put in a tremendous effort to make this special day a resounding success."

This bi-annual event first started in 1977 in celebration of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and changed to even years in 2002 for the Golden Jubilee.

All proceeds from the event go to the village hall registered charity
