A LONG serving Marlow landlady is calling time at the bar this weekend and bidding farewell to the town centre after 17 years at the helm.

Poon Ling, who runs the Coach and Horses on West Street, has thanked her loyal regulars for their years of custom as she prepares to take a break from the industry.

The pub, which serves Chinese food alongside pulling pints, will now close for an overhaul, to re-emerge as the newest venture for Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge.

Mrs Poon said: “This Saturday will be the last day of trading for us. We have been here for 17 years and enjoyed it all, it is very sad to leave but I need a break, it is a long time to do this job.

“Everyone is sad, but a big thank you to everyone for their support over the last 17 years, we have a lot of great customers.”

Mrs Poon, who originally ran the pub business with her late husband Steve, said she hopes to return to Marlow in the future to find premises and continue serving her Chinese food.

Tom and Beth Kerridge will overhaul the 19th century coaching inn after receiving planning permission last week for major internal and external changes.

The double-starred chef has revealed plans for a low cost, all-day tapas-style eatery with a brand new open plan kitchen area.

And with a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu featuring British and French-inspired small plates, the star chef hopes to lure customers out of High Street eateries and back to the pub.

The pub is expected to be closed for at least three months as the refit gets underway.
