A PRIMARY school headteacher and her leadership team have been praised after they were rated as good in a recent Ofsted report.

Carrington Junior School in Chapel Road, Flackwell Heath, were told they required improvements when inspectors last visited two years ago.

However, they have now been classed as a good school and highlighted the improvement made since Amanda Fell was appointed as headteacher as one of the significant factors behind the change.

In the report, inspectors said: “The headteacher is ambitious for the pupils and is determined that they should do as well as possible. In this endeavour, other leaders and governors support her very well.”

“Leaders and governors have improved the quality of teaching since the previous inspection, which has resulted in better progress for pupils,” they added.

Ms Fell has now said she is delighted with the decision and soon hopes to lead the school to an outstanding status.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted that all of the hard work and progress over the last few years at Carrington has been recognised by Ofsted.

“I joined a school in challenging circumstances three years ago and have watched it blossom into the school it is today. “It is testament to the hard work, commitment and support of the pupils, staff, governors, parents and local community that we are where we are today - a good school.

“Following the best SATs results in the history of the school this July - an Ofsted grading of good was the perfect way to end the year.

“We are all looking forward now to the next leg of our journey towards outstanding.”

To become an outstanding school Ofsted have said teachers should check pupils understanding during lessons and adjust tasks accordingly.

Teachers should also give advice on how to improve when marking their work and should offer pupils an opportunity to respond to these comments.

Ofsted also added developing the partnership with parents to ensure all have confidence in school work would greatly benefit the school.
