AN EXHIBITION to commemorate the outbreak of the First World War is being held in Bourne End to show the effect the war had on the area.

Wycombe District Councillor, Brian Pollock, who was involved in organising the exhibition, said there will be lots talked about the national effect of the war but he wanted to show more of the impact in Bourne End.

As part of the exhibition at Bourne End library a number of Bucks Free Press cuttings (pictured) were used as part of the display.

Cllr Pollock said: “The exhibition has been put on to show what life was like following the outbreak of the war.

“It mainly concentrates on the time from August 1914 to December.

“We felt there would be lots said this year about the massive effect WWI had on the country but we wanted to look at the local impact.

“We have had a steady response from people in the area and there does seem to be an interest.

“There is actually quite a few press cuttings from the Bucks Free Press which are in the exhibition which has helped in showing the effect the war had locally.”

The exhibition will end on Friday, August 8.
