A MAJOR series of remembrance events will take place in Chesham this weekend.

On Saturday there will be a service and wreath-laying at the War Memorial in The Broadway at midday.

Events will then move to Lowndes Park, where there will be tree-planting and a picnic at 1pm. The RAF Halton Band will play at 2pm and 3.15pm.

There will be a release of pigeons at 2.45pm and a balloon release at 4pm.

Chesham Cemetery will be hosting a World War One exhibition between 1 and 4pm. The Elgiva will be screening the film 'War Horse' at 7.30pm.

On Sunday the focus will be on Market Square, which will start with a procession and music at 11.30am. At midday the newly re-hung Town Bell will be struck, followed by a multi-faith service at midday. This will include the reading of Chesham's fatality list, poetry readings and the laying of flowers of remembrance.

There will be a World War One exhibition, focusing on the start of the war, at Chesham Museum from 11am to 4pm.

The World War One display at Chesham Cemetery will be available to view from 10am til midday and then from 1 to 4pm.

A service of Reflection & Prayers for Peace will be held at St. Mary's at 6pm.

Chesham United Reformed Church (in partnership with Trinity Baptist Church) will be hosting a communion service at 6pm and a vigil from 7pm to midnight.

On Monday at 8.15pm there will be a candle-lit parade from Market Square to the War Memorial, followed by a service of remembrance.
