A POPULAR celebrity baker will open this year’s fun-packed Beaconsfield County Fayre on Bank Holiday Monday.

Mary Berry, who lives in Penn, will open the event, which is now in its eight year, alongside the Mayor of Beaconsfield, Steve Jones.

This year’s Fayre, which normally attracts thousands of people, will contain the infamous Stretcher Race and the much adored Dog Show.

The show will also see a display from Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

Co-Chairman of the Beaconsfield Country Fayre, Kathryn Grudgings, said: “We are absolutely honoured and delighted that Mary Berry is able to open our eighth Beaconsfield Country Fayre and since the ides of August are promising us good weather for a fun filled day for all the family, we hope to have a good crowd this year and raise another £15,000 to £17,000 for the local charities we support”.

Returning this year will also be the Birds of Prey, while there will also be a climbing wall and one of the new events this year will be a junior go kart area.

However, the main attraction is likely to be both the Dog Show and the Stretcher Race.

Young children from the town will also be able to compete in their own race as they will be given the opportunity to carry a teddy bear along Windsor End.

This year’s Beaconsfield County Fayre will start at 11am on Monday, August 25, and end at 4pm on the same day. The car park remains open until 5pm.

I know she is local and all that and it is great that she is opening this fete but I believe we have had enough exposure to Mary Berry in recent times.
