A FOOD bank in Chesham could be given a new home for the next five years.

An application to convert a disused shop in The Broadway into a base for the charity to work from has been submitted to Chiltern District Council.

The plans are for a change of use from retail to food bank for a temporary period of five years.

The proposals have been welcomed by Chesham Town Council, with the district likely to make a ruling on the plans next week.

Chesham's current food bank is based in Church Street and the charity is looking for a new home.

The premises they are looking to move in to was previously occupied by the Bookthrift Group, which shut up shop in 2011 after being deemed financially unviable.
