A DRIVER had to be airlifted to hospital following a collision with a tipper truck on the M40 between Loudwater and High Wycombe this morning.

The two vehicles are believed to have collided between junction 3 and 4 at about 6.50am.

A white Mercedes Sprinter van and a Volvo tipper truck were involved in the collision, police said.

The driver of the Mercedes is currently being airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Two lanes are currently closed northbound and there is severe congestion in the area with traffic queuing back to junction 1a.

Traffic is likely to be affected for several hours and motorists are advised to avoid the affected area.

If you witness the collision or have any information please call 101.
