BUS drivers and taxi drivers in High Wycombe competed against each other in a one-off cricket match this month to raise money for the mayor’s charity.

The tense match between two of the towns public transport companies helped to raise more than £1,000 for Mayor of High Wycombe, Khalil Ahmed’s charity.

Drivers and other employees of Wycombe’s Arriva buses battled against Hackney Carriages drivers, with the former winning by just one run in a very close game.

The charity Twenty20 match was held at the Lacey Green Cricket Club and was organised by both the mayor and the Hackney Carriages taxi business.

Cllr Ahmed said: “I was very appreciative for all the money raised. It makes a real difference when people do things like this.

“The match itself was very interesting and quite exciting, as it finished quite close.

“There may even be a rematch on the cards. Mohammed Junaid (of the bus company) seems keen to continue on from their success, where as the taxi drivers are determined to win next time.”

Cllr Ahmed said I need to thank everyone involved, especially Mohammed Junaid, and three of the taxi drivers, Ghulam Rasool, Mohammed Naeem and Tanveer Mahmood.

In total the two teams helped to raise £1,040 and presented a cheque for the money to the mayor earlier this week.
