A CHALLENGING 10k run completed by a councillor recovering from cancer has brought the total he has raised for charity to an impressive £25,000.

After a year's delay fighting prostate cancer, Cllr Huxley completed the 2014 London run and presented a cheque for £950 to WheelPower, a charity based at Stoke Mandeville Stadium which helps disabled people take part in sport.

Much of the £950 was donated by County Councillors through their Community Leaders’ Fund, a which allows members to support projects in their communities.

Andy started running for charity 30 years ago and has compiled an impressive résumé so far, with six marathons, three half-marathons and a 10 kilometre run under his belt.

He began fundraising for WheelPower after joining its board 13 years ago as a Buckinghamshire County Council representative. Andy chose to continue his work after being impressed by the charity’s commitment to both local and disabled people.

Andy said: "It’s very important for me to be involved in and serve the local community. My motive for raising money has to be a good cause and WheelPower is an excellent charity."

WheelPower spokesman Jo Hall said: "Andy is a fantastic supporter of WheelPower and has helped to develop a great relationship between us, Stoke Mandeville stadium and the local authority."

The money that Andy raises helps fund various sporting events run by the charity, as well as enabling WheelPower to buy sports wheelchairs for its users.
