A CYCLING extravaganza is coming to Chesham next month to mark the Tour of Britain.

Stage Six of the cycle challenge passes through the town on its way from Bath to Hemel Hempstead and an afternoon of celebrations are planned.

Competitors can go head-to-head in a simulated race on custom-built rollers in the 'Rollapaluza' challenge, while there will also be a mini cycle course and spinning sessions.

The cycling festival will take place in Lowndes Park from 12-4.30pm on Friday, September 12 - the day the Tour arrives in Chesham.

Cllr Peter Hudson, Chiltern District Council's cabinet member for community, said: "Lowndes Park is the perfect place to hold a cycling festival as the main tour will go right past while it will be in full swing. We'll all be cheering the Tour cyclists on, but they will be travelling at such a speed, their visit will be brief. Our festival will keep the fun going all afternoon."
