INTREPID council workers set out on their bikes this week to check the Bucks route of the Tour of Britain.
Race cyclists on the Tour of Britain will enter the county near Stokenchurch on September 12 and travel through to Chesham before leaving for the next county.
It will take these professionals less than an hour but on Tuesday a group of cyclists from Buckinghamshire County Council [BCC] rode the route in just under three hours.
The ride was part of BCC events team's route-checking exercise.
Events manager Vanessa Mason said they decided to cycle, rather than drive the route, to get into the spirit of Tour of Britain.
She said: "It rained throughout the ride, and they all got very wet but this did nothing to dampen their enthusiasm."
Aylesbury-based Buckingham Bikes transported their cycles to and from the start and finish.
Thousands are expected to line the Bucks route on September 12, which enters the county near Stokenchurch and winds its way through Princes Risborough, across the Chilterns to Great Missenden, Hyde Heath, Chesham and Ashley Green, and on to Hemel Hempstead.
