AN ELDERLY woman pedestrian has been seriously injured in a traffic collision in Marlow, with parts of the town at a standstill while the incident is investigated.

At around 11.15am today officers were called to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and silver Vauxhall Astra in Liston Road. The driver stopped at the scene.

The pedestrian, a woman aged in her eighties, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Liston Road and Chapel Street are currently closed and access to Liston Road car park is blocked while officers are on the scene.

Meanwhile, readers have reported being stuck in Liston Road and unable to leave the car park behind Waitrose since this morning.

Police are currently trying to free traffic via an access road near Marks and Spencer, with onlookers saying officers are attempting to move a bollard from the road.

Sgt Dominic Mahon, from the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who saw the vehicle travelling prior to the collision.

“A number of people are currently unable to enter or leave the car park and I would ask drivers to be patient while the investigation is ongoing. We are working on a way to try to release the cars from the car park at the earliest opportunity.

“I would also advise motorists to avoid the area at present due to congestion.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.
