A COMMUNITY housing group has saved the day for this year's Poppy Appeal in Princes Risborough.

Dot Collier, who has been a member of the Princes Risborough branch for 40 years, was over the moon when Red Kite Community Housing offered to help out.

They have put forward a room attached to Wollerton Court in the town where Dot can store the poppies and wreaths.

She said: "I would like to say a big thank you to Red Kite for saving the day for this year's Poppy Appeal.

"I wasn't going to do it because I don't have the space. I have got some in my garage, some at home and all over the place.

"This just makes it so much easier and I don't have to do all the running around.

"It is not just for Risborough town but for the area surrounding it."

Last year Lloyds Bank offered the space and the Risborough Poppy Appeal raised £10,000.

The Risborough branch has been without a home since 2011 as the memorial hall where it was housed was sold to the highest bidder by RBL HQ.

This means there hasn't been a base to store the poppies during the annual appeal.

The monthly branch meetings are currently held in the Community Centre in Stratton Road every month, which members pay to rent.

Dot said: "I am the membership secretary too. We used to have 700 members.

"Last year we had 75. We have got nothing to offer as we don't have a branch. That is what makes it so sad."
