COOKHAM'S annual Regatta launches this weekend, with large numbers expected to congregate on the banks of the Thames to watch and take part in a wide range of water sports and activities.

Jointly organised by Cookam Bridge and Marlow Thames Rotary Clubs, there will be boat races throughout the day on Saturday, with the Bisham Concert Band providing musical entertainment.

The racing will culminate in a presentation ceremony, whilst people can take part in several fun games such as sumo wrestling and bungee trampoline whilst not cheering on the competitors.

There are plenty of activities for youngsters as well, with waterball rolling and a climbing wall featuring on the day.

So far, there are 16 dragon boats registered to take part in the racing and more than 10 cat-canoes - the biggest event of the day will be the "Cookham Challenge," a multi-event involving dragon boating, cat-canoe, volleyball, tug of war, and an event called funny walk.

Peter Osborn, chair of the Cookham Regatta organising committee, said: "We’re hoping for good weather as usual and the support of the local people in what we hope will be an extremely enjoyable afternoon."

First race is at 10am, the offical opening takes place at 11am and prizes will be awarded at 5pm.
