A COMMUNITY centre held a day of activities to say thank you to the residents of the village where it is based.

The Lane End Youth and Community Centre celebrated its tenth birthday yesterday with a community day.

There were various activities including a bouncy castle, golf and a rodeo bull as well as a range of stalls.

Katy Donaghue, chair of the centre, said: "Rather than have a big party we invited the community to join us and have a fun day.

"Everyone has been so generous with their time and we have had amazing support from everyone."

She said the centre would not exist without the help of the community.

There are three paid members of staff and the rest are volunteers, but they always need more to help out.

Katy said: "We are a registered charity- we are all self funded.

"There is a lovely community feel in Lane End. If you ask for help, people will come and help you.

"We want more people to be involved if they can."

The centre was originally funded by Wycombe District Council and hosts numerous classes and clubs, including pilates, youth clubs and dog training.

Janine Swalding made a cake to celebrate and also provided a cake for people to guess the weight.

Linda Bedford, 56, from the village said: "It is very handy to have the centre next to the school.

"It is a good asset to the village and we hold our children's family birthday parties here."
