A GERMAN enthused talk and coffee morning will be held this month to celebrate the two year anniversary of a social group of retired residents from Beaconsfield.

The ‘Inside Germany’ group meets once a month to consider all aspects of the country.

The group is part of the South Bucks branch of the University of the Third Age, which offers 45 different clubs for their 600 members.

As one of the latest groups, retired residents often meet in Beaconsfield to discuss their interest.

The anniversary event will see international professor, Helmut Hubel, talk about topical German and Eastern European affairs.

He will discuss his thoughts on ‘Germany-Ukraine-Russia: an awkward triangle’.

After his presentation, guests will be invited to a celebratory German “Buchereuth Café” which will offer a range of home backed ‘Kuchen’ cake and brewed German coffee.

Group founder Tony Blake-Pauley said: “I set up the group in September 2012 and we are now 28 strong and have established a reputation among the retired in the area for being a source of learning about Germany and the Germans.

“My own interest and commitment in setting up the group stems from the 13 years I spent as a member of HM Diplomatic Service on postings to Stuttgart, Bonn, Frankfurt and Munich, at which last named I filled the role of HM Consul General.”

The group now hope their second anniversary will be as successful as their previous celebrations a year ago.

The anniversary talk will be held at The Church of St Thomas, in Mayflower Way, Holtspur, on Monday, September 22, from 2pm.
