A MINI adventure is set to get underway after a Marlow couple agreed to pay homage to a motoring legend and recreate a cinema classic.

Verity West and Martin Teague from Little Marlow are gearing up to take part in the 2014 Italian Job, a rally that sees up to 100 Minis, as featured in the 1969 Michael Caine film, make the trek from Italy to England.

Mable the Mini, lent to Ms West and her partner by friends Mike and Clare Weeks, who are also taking part, will transport them from a two city stopover in Turin and Trento, before driving back through Europe to the Crowne Plaza in Marlow on November 1.

As part of the adventure, they will take part in a drive round the Fiat test track on the factory roof - the same one that featured in the original film.

The rally, entering its 25th year, helps raise money for children’s charity Variety, although there is an opportunity to present some local children with gifts whilst in Trento - and with all the gear and spare tires in the back, the pair are hoping not to blow the doors off.

Ms West said: "There’ll be beautiful scenery, with up to 100 minis all driving in convoy.

"We’re going through Luxembourg and the Swiss Alps on the way there, taking a leisurely scenic route down to Italy before the madness starts.

When asked who was the better driver, she added: "I couldn’t possibly say, but we’re both going to take it in turns so we both get to enjoy the experience."

The adventuring pair are getting closer to their fundraising target, with around £700 left to top the £2500 figure they set out to reach.
