THE town crier of Beaconsfield introduced an ice bucket challenge today which saw the mayor being drenched.

The Mayor of Beaconsfield Steve Jones was covered in icy water to raise awareness for his chosen charity this year, The Alexander Jansons Foundation.

Town crier Dick Smith introduced the challenge outside Beaconsfield Town Hall this afternoon.

Jeff Lipman from First4Service, who sponsored the event, and fundraiser, Chris Owen, poured icy water over the mayor from the hall's balcony.

Cllr Jones said afterwards: "It was wet, cold and horrible. Apart from that it was lovely.

"Anything to support the charity- I thought it was worth doing it in style outside the town hall."

The ice bucket challenge went viral on social media last month, where people filmed themselves being covered in icy water.

Cllr Jones added: "I know we are getting a bit late in the day but thought it was still worth doing it."

The foundation was set up last year following the death of Alexander Jansons , an 18-year-old who lived in Beacon Hill, Penn.

He died suddenly last July from a heart condition called myocarditis, when he was on his way home from a night out.

Parents, Andy and Pam, and brother, Tomas, aim to raise a minimum of £80,000 a year for the next three years to fund research into the condition.

The family hope the research will provide early detection of those at risk, early initiation of treatment and improve clinical outcomes.

They have so far raised in excess of £33,000.

Patricia Dean from the charity said: "With this it is about raising awareness and just letting people know exactly what it is all about and raising the profile."
