THIS week sees the beginning of ‘Stoptober’ – an initiative to help people stop smoking that saw over 2000 Bucks smokers sign up last year.
The national scheme aims to help smokers stay smoke free for 28 days, with those who do without for a month five times more likely to quit for good.
Bucks County Council are encouraging residents to give giving up a go, even if they tried and failed last year.
Dr Jane O’Grady, Director of Public Health said: "If you were one of those who took part last year and didn’t manage to stay off cigarettes then don’t be too despondent. Why not try again this year - most smokers need more than one attempt to quit for good.
“The excellent free local NHS stop smoking services can help you through the month and increase your chances of success."
A range of support tools are available to help smokers reach their 28-day Stoptober goal, including a smartphone app.
