A BRAVE girl, who has had more than 20 operations since being diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 13-months-old, will walk with other children to raise money for charity.

At the age of four, Jessica Duggan has had to receive treatment for about three years, and her last operation in June lasted eight hours.

In an attempt to help raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity, Jessica will join others in a sponsored walk in Wooburn Green.

Jessica’s father, Ben Duggan, from Naphill, says he is proud of his daughter.

He said: “We want to do all we can to raise awareness about brain tumours and raise money for research. We’re so proud of Jessica.”

In 2011, friends and family helped raise more than £30,000 to send Jessica to America for a 10-week course of radiotherapy.

On Sunday, October 12, more than 20 children, aged between four and five will take part in the walk on The Green, Wooburn Green.

The event was organised by an entertainments consultant from the village because her children were disappointed they could not join in a twilight walk their mother is due to enter.

Zoe Bourn, 35, said: “We’re raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity’s fantastic work as my mum Julie is living with a brain tumour and runs a support group with the charity.”

“The kids’ little legs can’t cope with the 10K Twilight Walk so we came up with The Daylight Walk on The Green, Wooburn Green – a rather shorter walk.

“Then mum and I are walking in The Windsor Twilight Walk that evening so it’s a real family affair.”

The Brain Tumour Charity’s Director of Fundraising, Louise Taylor, said: “Our fundraisers are all ages, but these are among our youngest!

“We’re so grateful to Zoe for organising The Daylight Walk and to Jessica and the other children for taking part.

“All these families know first-hand how important our mission to beat brain tumours is. I wish them all the best of luck on their walk.”

At the time of going to print, organisers had already raised about £600.
