A 20-YEAR-OLD woman escaped from a would-be robber who grabbed her by the throat by kicking him in the groin.

Money was demanded from the attempted robbery victim during the altercation in High Wycombe on Saturday night.

The woman, who was walking alone, was attacked in Benjamin Road as she approached the junction with Priory Avenue at around 9.40pm.

A man approached her and grabbed her by the throat and demanded money - but the victim kicked her attacker and ran away as he lay on the ground.

The incident is being treated as an attempted robbery and Thames Valley Police has today launched an appeal for witnesses to come forward.

The offender is described as white, about 5ft 10in tall, slim, and aged in his mid to late twenties. He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up and blue jeans.

Nothing was stolen during the incident and the victim was uninjured.

Investigating officer PC James Wood said: "We believe this offence to be an opportunistic incident, but where possible we would advise people to walk in pairs or groups at night. Police would also advise residents to use well-lit routes.

"If you anyone has any information about this offence, especially if you recognise the description of the offender, then please contact police immediately via 101.

"If you don't want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org."
