BANKING customers in South Bucks could be forced to travel further to see a cashier after Lloyds announced a raft of branch closures.

The bank – which also incorporates Bank of Scotland (BOS) and Halifax – said developments such as mobile banking means fewer High Street branches will be needed in future.

The closures are likely to hit Lloyds and BOS branches where there are two in close proximity, with 200 to close nationally in the partly public-owned banking group.

And with two Lloyds branches in High Wycombe, as well as one each in Marlow and Bourne End, some of South Bucks banks could be facing the chop.

Alongside the closures, 9000 jobs are set to be lost, which bank bosses called ‘regrettable’ as they continue to ‘digistise’ the bank.

The bank said 90 per cent of customers will have a branch within five miles of where they live, which marks the end of its pledge to keep open the ‘last branch in town’.

And without this pledge, Marlow or Bourne End customers could see their local branch shut as they are forced to travel to carry out their face-to-face banking.

Lloyds is 25 per cent owned by the taxpayer after it was bailed out following the banking crisis in 2008.

Exact branch closures have not yet been announced.
