A SERIES of novels written by children’s author Enid Blyton, while she lived in Beaconsfield, will soon be shown on the big screen.

The Magic Faraway Tree books will be adapted into movies for the first time, it was announced this week.

The four stories will be produced by the Sam Mendes production company, Neal Street Productions.

Each story was written while she lived in the town where she was recently remembered with a commemorative plaque.

The series written between 1939 and 1951 include The Enchanted Wood, The Magic Faraway Tree, The Folk of the Faraway Tree and Up the Faraway Tree.

Beaconsfield Society Committee member, and retired librarian, Kari Dorme, said: “It is such exciting news that the Sam Mendes production company is going to adapt Enid Blyton’s Far Away Tree series for the big screen.

“The town’s world famous author wrote all four books when she lived in Beaconsfield.

“These stories are amongst the most loved by children and the film when released will be a huge boost to Enid Blyton’s popularity.

“It will do so much to encourage even more children to read her stories and to read for pleasure.”
