RESIDENTS may soon be able to shape the future of a South Bucks town after it was agreed a more up-to-date plan was needed for the area.

People of Beaconsfield will be able to get involved in devising a plan which will look at topics including infrastructure, transportation and town facilities.

The Beaconsfield Town Council say they felt it was time for a new town plan to be created and are hoping a community-run group will be able to organise one in time for the upcoming elections in May.

The last Beaconsfield town plan was published in 2008 and after a ‘steering group’ is up and running, residents will be able to get involved in discussions.

Although plans are at very early stages, chairman of the Beaconsfield Society and Wilton Park Watch, Mike Elliott, has told the Bucks Free Press he will be involved.

He said: “It is basically an opportunity to have a fresh look at the town plan which was produced in 2008 as it needs a bit of updating.

“I think it is a great opportunity for the town and once we have things together we will welcome suggestions and input from other residents.

“This is at the very, very, early stages, but we are hoping to start looking into this in more detail.

“A few of us will soon be meeting to discuss where we go next with this.”

Beaconsfield Town Council leader Alan Walters says although the council will assist discussions, they will be taking more of a back seat in formal arrangements.

He said: “We are working at getting a group together to hopefully form a new town plan which will serve the area for another five or 10 years.

“The council are facilitating this but we want to see what the people of Beaconsfield want to be included in it.

“We are hoping to form a steering group who will help co-ordinate this and then a number of working groups can hopefully help in certain areas.

“We have also employed an independent person to help and they can have a view from the outside.”

He added ideally plans will be in place for the next election in May.
