Community-engaged research: ethics and the drive for social justice
Dr Margaret Greenfields works extensively in the field of social inclusion, ethnicity, equalities and social justice, undertaking collaborative research with communities at risk of marginalisation, racism and ‘othering’. She has worked closely with Gypsy, Traveller and Roma (GTR) communities for over 25 years as well as leading action research studies with vulnerable migrants, LGBT members of faith communities, and refugee/asylum-seeking women. During her lecture, she will look at the ethical basis for using participatory, community-based methods to develop social policy research. Using case studies and narratives to argue that there is an ethical imperative for social policy practitioners to engage closely with community ‘subjects’ when developing policy interventions, Greenfields will examine the tensions associated in engagement with vulnerable groups. Tickets are free. Email lorna.west@bucks.ac.uk for more information.
