Hundreds of people turned up to get muddy and raise money for charity on Sunday.

Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s Muddy Mucker event saw over 600 people descend on Green Park, Aston Clinton to raise thousands to support the charity.

Rennie Grove Hospice Care offers palliative and end-of-life care to local patients with life-limiting illnesses and supports their families throughout.

Spectators looked on as the runners slipped and slid around the five-mile course, which included 28 obstacles like climbing over hay bales, running up the back of a lorry, wading through a muddy stream and crawling through tunnels.

Clare Burnage from Aylesbury and Sioux Putnam from Great Kimble raised £110 for the Hospice so far.

Clare said: “We take part in events like this often; we’ve recently done the Chiltern’s Three Peaks Challenge and Race for Life. Today I’m running in memory of my sister’s mother and father-in-law who were both helped by the Hospice.

“We’re expecting lots of mud! It will be good fun but a great achievement for such a good cause.”

Sharon Houchin and Debbie Bixley were running together as part of a team of 14, called the Honey Monsters, from Princes Risborough.

Debbie, who runs fitness classes in Princes Risborough, said: “We all do marathons and challenge but we have never done anything like this before. We’re nervous but very excited to get going, it’s all for a great cause.

“We all do regular fitness classes together and a lot of us are on a pre-Christmas health kick, so for the last two weeks we have been watching our nutrition in preparation.

“We’re just hoping to finish in one piece. We might even do some mud angels at the end!”

Grant and Stone, who have branches across South Bucks including High Wycombe and Amersham, sponsored one of the obstacles along the course.

Darren House, Marketing Manager at the Builders and Plumbers merchant, entered the course with a team of six other people, who all finished within 50 minutes.

Speaking after the event, Darren said: “It was a really good obstacle course and really well organised and our team have done a great job.

“We have a good relationship with Rennie Grove Hospice Care; it’s a really great cause.”

Julie Gamble-Kempe, Communications Officer at Rennie Grove Hospice Care, said: “It was a sell-out event for us and we’re really happy with how it went. It was really well supported and well attended. We’re hoping the event has raised over £30,000, which will fund one of our specialist nurses for a year.”

Gemma Martin, Senior Events Fundraiser at Rennie Grove, agreed that the event a huge success.

She said: "We were delighted with the response both in the run up to the event and on the day.  There was a fantastic atmosphere and everyone joined in with enthusiasm right from the energetic warm-ups led by Spirit Fitness from Aylesbury, through all the obstacles and to the finish line."
