CAST and crew at one of Marlow’s oldest societies are gearing up for their latest production starting next week as they resurrect a TV comedy favourite.

Amateur dramatics group the Marlow Players have been entertaining audiences for around 75 years and take to the stage for their newest play, The Vicar of Dibley, for a three-night run next week.

The popular 90s series was filmed just along the valley in Turville, and cast members are hoping to transport audiences back to the fictional village of Dibley, complete with all the favourite TV characters.

Gloria Kendrick Hurst, who wears special padding to play Dawn French’s central character, vicar Geraldine, said: "Everything’s going well, we have some very good people involved.

"I’ve had to fatten up for Geraldine, it’s very warm and I keep forgetting I can’t walk through tight spaces because of my enormous bust!"

"It’s been going about 75 years. We put on two productions a year and hopefully we’re regarded in a good light by the community."

Performances take place at the Shelley Theatre, Court Garden, from November 27 to 29.

Based on the first few episodes of the nineties TV favourite, the two-act play will resurrect characters including dippy verger Alice Tinker, foul-mouthed Owen; and 'No,no,no,no,yes' Jim.

The curtain raises each night at 8 pm, with tickets costing £12 (£5 for 12 and under) available from www.marlowplayers.org.uk

Performing rights for the production are being donated to Comic Relief
