A FORMER pub landlady who has been described as an ‘absolute character’ celebrated her hundredth birthday last week.

Nancy Line, who was born on November 12, 1914, was joined by friends and family at her Amersham care home to mark the special occasion.

She has been a resident of Rushymead Residential Care Home, in Tower Road, since March 2012 and is said to have quickly settled in.

Care Home Manager Bev Sturges said: “Nancy is an absolute character and a real pleasure to have here at Rushymead, she also has some amazing stories that she shares with us.

“When we asked Nancy what would be the one thing she couldn’t live without she responded by saying ‘Her Lipstick’.”

Nancy was once the landlady of the Red Lion in Coleshill and also used to work as a maid.

At this time she was employed by Thomas Forbes, who owned Rushymead before it became a residential care home.

Nancy was born in Coleshill and attended the Coleshill village school and according to friends since her retirement she says she likes to do nothing now but to relax, as she has worked all her life.

On her birthday, Nancy was joined by her five children and their families.
