THE history of an ever-changing town will forever be preserved for all to look back on, with a group of volunteers planning to track back through the years to protect the past.

The helpers believe it is a good time to delve into the rich-past of Beaconsfield with one of the town’s Archive Project committee members saying the history should be recorded before it is forgotten.

So far the group has had about 30 volunteers come forward and after receiving a £10,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund earlier this year they will now finally be able to put their plans into motion at the start of next year.

Clare Bull, who has been involved in the group’s plans, says she is looking forward to January when they start the project.

She said: “Beaconsfield is clearly changing quickly, and parts of the town looks different to how they did just a few years ago and it will continue to change.

“For example we have the Wilton Park development and that could see a big change to the town.

“As well as that all these new people will not know anything about the history of the town and we don’t want that to be forgotten.

“In a room in the town hall there is a lot of old pictures, maps, records and documents that all need to be sorted through.

“Our plan is to archive this all online so everyone can view it. It will also hopefully work out to be a good tool for schools too.”

Volunteers, archivists and other interested residents have now been invited to meet with the group at the Beaconsfield Town Hall next week.

They plan to start looking through the history and will also hear from senior archivist Laura Cotton, on Wednesday, December 3, between 12pm and 2pm.

Despite interest having already been shown, the project team are still keen for more people to offer their support.
