The traffic bedlam that hit the Totteridge area of High Wycombe today should be eased in time for tomorrow morning’s rush hour, says Transport for Bucks.
The roads were heavily congested in the Totteridge Lane area – causing headaches for commuters and for anyone taking their children by car to one of the several schools in the vicinity.
The resurfacing works on Totteridge Road, at the junction with Wingate Avenue, had been planned by TfB, and gas works being undertaken along Totteridge Lane had also been scheduled.
However, Southern Electric were forced to carry out an emergency electricity cable repair today too.
While the anticipated impact on traffic for that work alone had been described as low, the combination of works caused chaos and major delays for motorists this morning.
Laura-Jo Stocks, communications officer for Transport for Bucks, said: “We acknowledge that there was congestion and delays in this area today - this was due to existing, programmed work taking place as well as an unplanned, emergency low voltage electricity cable repair.
“The traffic lights on site were manually controlled, however sheer weight of traffic meant that there was significant disruption. The majority of the work will be completed today, with just the emergency electric works ongoing, so further disruption should be minimised.”
