The Beaconsfield Festival of Lights will shine brighter than ever this year after calls from residents to replace the old lights.

The highlight of the town’s Christmas calendar is expected to be better than ever this year after councillors agreed to update the lights.

Organised by the Rotary Club, thousands regularly join the celebration which this year will take place on Wednesday evening.

However, residents will have already noticed the lights are different this year with Beaconsfield Town Council agreeing to change them every three years.

Cllr Philip Bastiman, chairman of the Christmas lights working group, said: “The Christmas star is a symbol of hope at this special time and plays an important role in the nativity story.

“The different themes reflect the varied character of the three shopping centres in Beaconsfield. Our aim is to add back a little bit of Christmas magic to the festive season.”

He added: “We have decided to lease the lights rather than buy them so they can be renewed every three years.

“I am looking forward to seeing the new Christmas lights and hope they will bring pleasure to Beaconsfield residents and visitors to the town”.

As well as the festive lights there will also be a number of stalls set up on the evening and the annual lantern parade will also continue.

Youngsters from a number of schools and community groups are expected to be involved in the parade which will start at 7pm.
