A national retailer is warning shoppers about the safety of their festive fairy lights after it was discovered the plug could lead to an electric shock.

A statement on the Primark website said the company were offering shoppers refunds for their boxes of 40, 100 and 200 multi-coloured and clear fairy lights.

Bucks Fire and Rescue have highlighted the warning to all residents in the district who have purchased this product.

In a statement they said: “Through our on-going due-diligence programme it has come to our attention that the fairy lights detailed above do not meet the Primark usual high safety for standards.

“We have found a potential issue with the performance of the plug that could lead to an electric shock.

“With the safety of our customers at the forefront of our minds we are inviting you to return any of the above items purchased for a full refund.

“If you have purchased any of these products then please return it to any Primark store where you will be offered a full refund. You will not be required to provide proof of purchase.”
