Christmas decorations may have been taken down from Beaconsfield school grounds before students returned to class this week, but the festive spirit will still be high in three care homes across the county after generous donations from youngsters.

Before finishing school for a two week break, girls at the Beaconsfield High School visited the care facilities just before Christmas to deliver a number of personalised gift boxes and presents.

As part of a school tradition lasting over 20 years, 90 teenagers from the Wattleton Road school made 260 festive boxes, which they then delivered to residents of Chalfont Epilepsy Centre, the Chalfont Lodge and Cherry Garth residential home.

Beaconsfield High School head of PE Claire Priestley, who was involved in the project, praised the hard work and kindness of everyone involved.

She said: “Each year I am overwhelmed by the huge generosity that students show, along with their small attention to detail.

“Some handcraft their own gifts or boxes, and all of them take great pride in including a card, which often is the most precious gift that the residents receive.”

Since making the donations, the school said they have already received thank you cards from many of the recipients.
