A dress worn by acting legend Dame Judi Dench in a TV adaptation of a Roald Dahl novel this week took pride of place in the Great Missenden museum dedicated to the author.

The costume worn by Dame Judi in the BBC's adaptation of Esio Trot, the final one of Mr Dahl's children's novels to be published before his death. The TV version, which aired on New Year's Day, featured former Holmer Green Senior School pupil and Hazlemere resident James Corden as the narrator.

The dress, which was installed in the museum by archivist Rachel White and her assistant Annie Price on Monday, had 2,000 Swarovski crystals sewn into it over the course of 18 hours for the film's wedding scenes.

Also making their way to the museum, in High Street, this week were several fully working props used in filming.

All of the artefacts have now gone on display in a new Esio Trot-themed exhibition which opened on Tuesday.

Among the other items now being displayed as part of the exhibition is a hand-written manuscript of a speech Mr Dahl gave to American students twelve years before the publication of the book. In it he explains how he got the idea for Esio Trot, while visiting his daughter in her apartment and spotting a tortoise on the balcony below.
