A flood alert remains in place for a stretch of the River Thames in south Bucks.

The Environment Agency (EA) alert began on Friday and covers the Thames from Hurley to Cookham including Harleyford, Bisham, Marlow and Bourne End.

It was in force over the weekend due to a period of heavy rain and remains in place, despite falling river levels.

Friday's initial alert in the area since April last year, after months of heavy rain caused widespread flooding throughout January, February and early March and forced residents out of their homes.

The alert states: “Water levels on the River Thames are falling slowly but remain high in response to recent rainfall.”

The EA said no properties are at risk during the alerts.

An alert was also issued on the Thames for Henley, Remenham, Medmenham and its tributaries.

Marlow’s £6.5m flood alleviation scheme was given the green light after funding was allocated late last year, and will eventually protect around 300 homes in Marlow.

But the EA estimates it will not be installed and operational until at least 2017.
