Developers behind the controversial plans to build 10,000 square feet of office space and four new cottages in Beaconsfield Old Town say it is “the most sustainable option for the town”.

A number of residents have already raised their concerns over the plans which would see the new offices and residential properties built next to the Millbarn Medical Centre and take a section of land which they have rented for parking for a number of years.

With plans brought forward by property consultants Bidwells, one of the company’s partners, and the strategic consultant for the site, said he does not believe it will have a bad effect on the surgery.

Daniel Jones said: “We have been speaking to the medical centre over the last two years and the bit of land we would need is where their staff park.

“This is not designated parking and is just a gravel surface, but we will not take any visitor parking away, while Millbarn will also keep their access into the site.”

However, Millbarn senior partner, Dr Stephen Brown, said he believes they would stand to lose half their parking spaces and if they wanted to build a surgery there today there would not be adequate parking.

He said: “We are not against a development but our main concern has to be the affect this proposal could have on the surgery, as we stand to lose about half our spaces.

“I believe if new plans were submitted for a surgery you would need about five spaces per consultancy room, we have nine rooms so would need 45 spaces.

“However, we currently only have 31 spaces and this is likely to go down by half if the development goes ahead.”

This week Bidwells shared their plans with the Bucks Free Press, highlighting the section of land they would need to take from the Millbarn car park.

Mr Jones added: “This development is creating a modern open-planned office space of 10,000sqft catering for the lack of supply in Beaconsfield.

“There will be more people in the town that will then hopefully be able to use local facilities including shops, restaurants, cafes and other places.

“We also hope to produce four small cottages which will cater for people who may otherwise struggle to rent housing in the area who might be able to now.

“It is not the most lucrative commercial use of this site but it is the most sustainable for Beaconsfield.”

He added they are happy to discuss any part of the plans with residents or interested parties who have already voiced their concerns.
