The car park of a derelict High Wycombe pub has become a “dumping ground” for rubbish and presents a health hazard to those nearby, says an angry resident.

The Jolly Bodger, in Chairborough Road, has been closed for years and its car park is now being used as an area for people to discard their waste.

Terry Bennett, 62, lives in nearby Longland Way and said that the rubbish presents a health risk to residents.

The retired British Airways employee said: “The pub has been derelict for a couple of years but people have dumped fridges and bags of rubbish.

“I have been across there several times and it’s just turned into a dumping ground.

“It’s now a complete health hazard. The car park is a real mess and the building is all boarded up.

“Now when people see rubbish being dumped and nothing being done about it then that encourages it.”

Mr Bennett said he has contacted Wycombe District Council to complain about the state of the land, but because it is private property the local authority is not able to intervene.

Sue Robinson, district council spokesman, said: “We are fully aware of the rubbish which has been dumped at the site of the former Jolly Bodger pub.

“As this is on private land, it is the landowner’s responsibility to remove the rubbish.

“We have written to the landowner requesting they remove the rubbish from the site and secure the perimeter of the site. To date we have not heard back from the landowner.”
