Residents who have campaigned against further development in Beaconsfield Old Town claimed success this week when plans to build two houses in Lakes Lane were rejected.

Along with neighbours, Liz Shaw and husband James have been strongly against an increase in homes as they say the infrastructure in Hedgerley Lane and Lakes Lane is not able to cope with the strain of buildings.

In recent years, both roads have been known to flood with sewage, and they say the system in the Old Town is not able to cope.

Mrs Shaw said: “We are not necessarily against development but my argument has always been we cannot have more properties if the infrastructure is not in place.

“We have had too many problems, when there is a lot of rainfall the drains just overflow and there is sewage water coming into the street.

“We are hoping that the relevant bodies are starting to note of the opposition, we have always said the sewer system can’t cope.

“We always felt as local residents our concerns were being ignored and hopefully that will have changed now.”

Plans rejected by South Bucks District Council last week would have seen two dwellings built to the land rear of 49 and 51 Lakes Lane, and a construction of vehicular access incorporating the extension and alterations to an existing driveway would have also been carried out.
