Students at Buckinghamshire New University were queuing out of the door to meet puppies belonging to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People when the charity popped in to raise money and help relieve exam stress.

The charity, based in Saunderton, brought in ten puppies, accompanied by volunteers, to meet students at Buckinghamshire New University in Queen Alexandra Road, High Wycombe.

The visit was arranged by BNU’s Students’ Union and coincided with exam week, so students took a much-needed break to meet the group of cute canines.

More than 460 students met the puppies and their donations raised £332 for the charity.

Lisa Bishop, community fundraising manager for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, said: "The event was absolutely superb and Bucks Students’ Union were extremely welcoming.

"The aim was to raise awareness of the charity and our work; allow students to meet the puppies; and also in turn provide training for the puppies in meeting a lot of people."

Second-year BSc (Hons) Psychology student Rachael Hunt said: "I have been up since 5am and just had my exam so this was the perfect way to wind down afterwards.

"I met Clio, an eight-month-old cocker spaniel, and he was adorable. It was also interesting to find out more about Hearing Dogs for Deaf People."

The visit was arranged through Sophia Neville, Training and Development Coordinator at Bucks Students’ Union, and Lauren Troiano, the Students’ Union’s Societies & Volunteering Assistant.

Sophia said: "At Bucks Students’ Union we are committed to making life better for students at the University. We actively encourage our students to get involved in local charities and this event has allowed them to find out more about Hearing Dogs for the Deaf and how they can make a real contribution to their work.

"We were really pleased with the sheer number of students and staff who attended the event and how positively it was received."
