More details have emerged about the tragic crash on the M40 last night in which two people died, with further casualties confirmed at the scene.
Bucks Fire and Rescue confirmed five cars and a van were involved in total, with three others injured alongside the fatalities.
South Central Ambulance Service sent three ambulance crews to the incident at 7.15pm, and a man was taken to Wexham Park Hospital for treatment.
Two others were treated at the scene and did not have to be taken to hospital.
The driver of the Renault – a man believed to be in his sixties - was pronounced dead at the scene, and the female passenger was taken by road to John Radcliffe Hosptial in Oxford, where she later died.
Police said earlier no formal identification has yet taken place and officers are working to establish the next of kin.
The motorway was closed in both directions for more than four hours, with a lane closure still in place while repair work takes place on the barrier.
- A 32-year-old man from Ealing, London, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs. He has been released on bail until February 11.
