A league table showing the highest achieving schools in the country for their GCSE results saw Beaconsfield High School take the highest ranking of schools in Bucks.

The school came in at number 27 on the list, with 100 per cent of pupils attaining five or more grades of A* to C, or equivalents including A* to C in both English and maths.

Other schools in the county that made the top 100 were Dr Challoner's High School, in 56th place. Wycombe High came in at 60, Sir William Borlase's at 61 and Dr Challoner’s Grammar School at 91 - all those schools had 99 per cent of pupils achieving those grades.

The table, published by the Department for Education, has come under fire from head teachers nationally for being irrelevant, with the claim that changes to GCSEs make the pupils' attainments hard to compare year-on-year.
