A young girl, who has only had her hair cut once before because she wanted to look like Rapunzel, will have 14 inches of her locks chopped off for charity this weekend.

Loudwater Combined School pupil Madison Anns, 6, has decided to donate a large amount of her hair to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children who have lost their own hair because of cancer.

So far she has also raised more than £600 for The Brain Tumour Charity following the tragic death of her mother’s cousin about two years ago.

Mother Tina Anns has praised Madison for doing such a selfless deed for charity.

She said: “A lot of people have said Madison is brave doing this and it is a really kind selfless thing for a young girl to do to try and raise money for charity.

“Everything raised will go to The Brain Tumour Charity. We do speak fairly often about my cousin who passed away, and Madison knows people do fall ill, and she wants to help.

“There has been a really good reaction to her doing this, and I let people know of the haircut on Facebook and about £400 has been raised from anonymous people on there – we are so grateful.”

The family decided to use the haircut to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity after Tina’s cousin passed away at the age of 32 from the meeting.

Madison will have only her second haircut this weekend, with a family friend planning to shorten the hair at their home in Kingsmead Road.

The trust they will donate the hair to provide real-hair wigs for boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have sadly lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

On their JustGiving page, Tina said: “Maddie has only ever had one haircut in her short life as she has had the desire to grow her hair to be like Rapunzel.

“She's now chosen to have her hair cut and rather than wasting approximately 14" of her hair in the bin.

“We came up with a beautiful idea of donating her hair to a children's Charity Little Princess [Trust] and to raise a little money for a very personal charity close to our hearts - The Brain Tumour Charity.”
