New faces could make the difference for a community group who are in search of volunteers to help guide villagers down the right path.

The Flackwell Heath Residents Association organises a number of events across the year and also helps fund community initiatives, but they are in need of new members.

At an upcoming annual general meeting, residents will be asked to offer their help and step forward in a bid to boost the village.

Current group secretary, Chloë Andrews-Jones, will be stepping down from the role at the meeting after six years in the job, and it is hoped someone can continue her good work within the village.

Discussing the groups AGM, the association told residents in a letter that they are looking for a new secretary as well as other volunteers.

They said: “This year, there are some vacancies. After six years in the post, the association's secretary, Chloë, is not seeking re-election.

“Could you be her replacement? The role is really what you make of it, with the primary function being taking minutes of the executive committee meetings held, in the evening, about every six weeks.

“Meetings are very social by nature. Chloë has expressed a desire to remain on the committee [in a different role] so will be around to offer help and guidance to her successor.

“If you're worried that it might be too onerous or time-consuming, the committee could take a different approach and seek a couple of volunteers to come along to one or two meetings during the year, take notes and produce the minutes.

“Perhaps social media is more your thing. We’d like to find other ways to communicate news and views in addition to the existing methods.”

This year one of the main events hosted by the residents association was a special picnic in the Recreation Ground, in Straight Bit, which was organised after it was announced the Cherry Fayre would be cancelled.

They also have a hand in many other community projects and have worked alongside Chepping Parish Council in some fundraising efforts.

At last year’s AGM resident Janet Smith was appointed chairman and it is the role of secretary which the group really want to fill this year.
