An elderly man died and a woman was seriously injured in a crash on the M40 yesterday, which closed the road for over two hours.

The man in his 70s was declared dead at the scene after the accident involving one vehicle, a Volvo X90, between junctions 8 and 9.

A woman, also in her 70s, was taken to the JR2 hospital in Oxford by air ambulance after sustaining serious injuries.

The motorway was closed at Thame for collision investigation work and was reopened at 5.45pm.
