A lifelong cricket fan from High Wycombe has celebrated bringing up her century alongside family and friends.

Desborough resident Betty Smart was with those closest to her for her 100th birthday party on Thursday, February 19, and even received presents from across the world.

Born in 1915 Betty has lived through two world wars and during World War II she joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service alongside her sister Eddie.

Niece Sue Mavall said: “Betty together with her sister Eddie volunteered to join the ATS during the war and stayed together working in the catering unit for the duration.”

And, speaking of the special birthday party, Sue added: “She was particularly pleased to receive a card from the Queen and bouquets of flowers from as far afield as Australia and America [sent from her great great Niece and great great Nephew].”

Family also described Betty as having a lifelong love of sport and cricket in particular.
