WOMEN across High Wycombe are invited to lace up their trainers and start limbering up for this year's Race for Life, organised by Cancer Research UK.

The Rye will again play host to this year's 5km run, which is expected to raise £132,000 and bring together 1,500 women.

The fifth annual event, which is one of 280 being held across the country, is now open for entries and takes place on June 17. All the money raised through sponsorship goes towards researching cancer and trying to find treatments.

Rosannah Dawood, organi-ser of High Wycombe Race for Life, said: "Last year's event was a great success, raising £113,398. I'd really urge every woman to take part as it's such an inspiring day and the money raised really does make an invaluable contribution to beating cancer."

Since Race for Life began in 1994 more than £140 million has been raised for the charity.

Meanwhile the Royal British Legion in St Mary's Street is kickstarting the fundraising for Cancer Research tomorrow night through an evening of entertainment. The Red and Grey Band will be performing on the night while lucky guests could scoop themselves a flight in a light aircraft in the raffle. The night starts at 8pm and tickets cost £10 or a donation may be accepted.
