PETERSHILL boss Stevie Easton is of the opinion that his team is not getting enough recognition.

Springburn's finest currently sit sixth in the Super Premier League table, and are showing signs of getting their act together following some inconsistent early season results.

And only last weekend they overcame a near full strength Albion Rovers XI in a friendly match thanks to goals from Jamie McCarroll, James Coulter and David Merriman.

That impressive display led to Easty championing the cause of Merriman to be capped for the Junior Scotland side.

He said: "On current form I cannot think of a better defender than Davie who is playing at Junior level.

"He really is at the peak of his game and I would love the Scotland manager Keith Burgess to come along to one of our matches and see for himself.

"There are other guys at this club who probably deserve to come under the microscope as well, but to a man, they would agree that Merriman's is the most deserving case of all.

"I read and hear of players at other clubs being thought of as possible Scotland caps, but without wanting to sound disrespectful to them, they cannot hold a candle to Davie.

"I believe it will be a travesty if he does not to get a Scotland call-up for next month's testimonial match against Auchinleck Talbot."

The Peasy boss will look to Merriman and rugged defensive markers Gerry Joyce and Gary Wild to keep a clean sheet, when the Glasgow cracks head deep into Ayrshire on Saturday for an intriguing New Coin Automatics Cup clash with Maybole.

"We have not lost a game away from home all season and that is down to the lads at the back, along with goalkeeper Neil Parry," continued Easton.

"Their combined ability to keep things tight means we are always in with a chance of getting something from our travels.

"Maybole will provide a difficult test for us particularly if big Paul Kerr is in the mood.

"However I have every faith in our defenders keeping his gas at a peep."

A definite non-starter in the visiting line-up is striker Steven "Dunga " McLung, only bought from East Kilbride Thistle during last close season, yet slapped on the open to transfer list in midweek after asking away.

Said a disappointed Easty: "Dunga feels he is effectively fourth choice striker, ever since we brought Stephen McGowan on board.

"That is not the case and I urged him to stay and fight for the jersey, but his mind was set up on moving to where he can play more regularly.

"Under the circumstances it was considered best for everyone if he was put up for sale." Harvey Vics shop for friendly fixture

BLANTYRE VICS are not upset at being the odd team out in the Central Second Division this weekend, having no competitive fixture.

That's because Willie Harvey has selection issues that every team manager would love to have.

Speaking after his side's 2-0 Junior Cup success away to Whitletts Vics he enthused: "Our victory was memorable we were without the recognised spine of our side in Kevin Lyle, captain Brian Glancey and our top scorer Gary Espener.

"If there is a downside then it's the headache I'm going to have when everyone is fit and champing at the bit for a jersey."

Vics entertain Lochore Welfare in the second round of the cup and Harvie added: "A home tie is the best we could have hoped for."

Harvey (07852 291243) is keen to keep Vics ticking over on Saturday and is asking for any clubs willing to play a friendly, home or away, to get in touch.
