WALTER SMITH today confirmed Rangers will not have to sell other top stars if Kris Boyd completes his £3.8m move to Birmingham City.

The Ibrox manager backed up yesterday's SportTimes exclusive that he would only have to cash in on one key first-team player during the current transfer window.

Boyd, who trained at Murray Park this morning, is still trying to agree personal terms with Alex McLeish's side and Smith is still waiting to find out if the deal will go through.

It has been reported Fulham and Sunderland have been alerted to Boyd's availability and may make moves if Birmingham don't seal a deal quickly.

Smith said: "There is that possibility he could remain a Rangers player. If they can't agree on the personal aspects that is exactly what will happen.

"Currently the clubs have agreed a fee and the player's representatives are in discussions with Birmingham with regard to personal terms of the contract. We await a decision from both of them as to what will happen.

"But I think the chairman has made it quite clear that if we sold a player, Kris Boyd or any other, there would be no need for us to sell anybody else.

"That was clear in the articles he did today so, if the deal does go through, then there would be no necessity for us to sell any other player."
