NEW YORK: Prince Charles collected an environmental award and made light of an eco-row his trip had sparked.
Charles gave an impassioned speech on saving the planet as he was honoured by former US vice president Al Gore and Hollywood actress Meryl Streep.
The prince's decision to fly to the US to pick up the the 10th Global Environmental Citizen Award from Harvard Medical School saw environmental campaigners accuse him of "green hypocrisy".
And Environment Secretary David Miliband last week suggested Charles should receive the prize via video-link rather than make a 7000-mile round trip.
As he accepted the award, Charles said: "I must warn you I am a video recording.
"I have only made a virtual flight across the Atlantic and am virtually half dead and only virtually royal."
